Tom Auxter is a philosophy professor at the University of Florida and statewide president of United Faculty of Florida, an NEA-AFT affiliate, which represents 23,000 faculty and graduate assistants at public universities and colleges and also at one independent university.

Valerie Wilk is a higher education organizer for the National Education Association in Washington, D.C. Besides assisting affiliates with organizing and membership campaigns, she coordinates NEA’s higher education program, which includes providing technical assistance to higher education locals, planning and convening the annual higher education conference, staffing higher education committees, and conducting trainings. Prior to joining NEA eight years ago, Valerie spent six years as a health care policy analyst and then as Assistant Director of Public Policy for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) also in Washington, DC. She received her B.A. degree in Modern Languages from Knox College in Galesburg, IL, and a Master’s of Science in Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.
