Crist Signs Law Giving Trustees Power Over University Presidents

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Gov. Charlie Crist has signed a new law that shifts the power to hire and fire state university presidents to each school's board of trustees.
That authority legally had rested with the Board of Governors, which oversees all 11 public universities, until Crist signed the bill Tuesday.
The new law, though, formalizes existing procedure because the Board of Governors already had delegated its authority over the presidents to the trustees.
It was the only bill Crist signed Tuesday.
