Board Approves Tuition Hike at Public Universities
From The Associated Press
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The board that oversees Florida's public universities has voted to increase tuition by 7 percent.
The Board of Governors approved the tuition increase at its meeting in Orlando on Thursday afternoon. All 11 universities had requested the tuition hike.
For most students, the vote means an increase of $5.74 per credit hour for undergraduates, or about $172 over the fall and spring semesters.
Universities say the extra money is needed to provide financial aid, maintain course offerings and improve graduation rates.
The rise comes on top of an 8 percent statewide increased already ordered by the Legislature.
