State Retirees Can Double Dip 6 Figure Paychecks

More than 7,600 state, school-district and local public servants throughout Florida are taking advantage of a controversial law allowing people to "double-dip" on state checks after retiring — even if their retirement lasts only 30 days.

And 30 of those state workers are collecting six-figure state retirement incomes along with six-figure public salaries.

In Central Florida, the biggest double-dipper in total state income is State Attorney Lawson Lamar of Orlando, who gets 121,036 dollars in retirement benefits while also earning more than 150,000 dolalrs in salary.

Critics of the state law, such as state Rep. Rob Schenck, R-Spring Hill, are trying to change it before the Florida Legislature's 2009 session ends this week.
