Help Advocate for Education

Senator Deutch has made an appeal to Senate President Atwater to shift Senate budget hearings set for next week in Tallahassee to other Florida cities so a greater number of Floridians might participate in the budget hearings. The attached document contains that letter. We have been asked to help Senator Deutch in that effort.

I would suggest several ways that you can help our Champion Friend of Education. They are as follows:

1) Write letters to the editor of local newspapers asking the Senate to provide more Floridians with the opportunity to address the state's budget needs. They can do this by having these meetings in cities around the state that are more accessible to our citizens.
2) Write, e-mail or call your local senator and urge him/her to support Senator Deutch in this effort.
3) Call local radio talk shows and promote the idea.
4) Contact elected school board members, county commissioners and other elected officials to make their own call for this happening.

This will provide a greater forum for grassroots participation in budget decisions and an opportunity to draw support for needed revenues and to promote the FEA Penny Tax Proposal.
