Change in Representation Policy
One important benefit of membership in UFF is the representation by an experienced UFF grievance representative in cases when your rights have been violated.
As of November 5, 2008, UFF cannot represent you in grievances if you were not a dues-paying union-member at the time a violation of your rights occurred.
What this means is that you cannot wait until “something happens” to join the union; just like you cannot call an insurance company to get car insurance when you are already in the car crash. You may think “nothing will happen to me,” but please be advised that many of your colleagues have incorrectly thought so before.
Please be aware that you are NOT automatically a member of UFF. You must complete and sign a membership form and submit it to UFF to become a member.
