UF Students form Human Chain to Protest Computer Science Cuts

University of Florida students formed a human chain Monday around the computer and information science and engineering department, protesting a budget-cutting plan that event organizers said would destroy the department.

More than 100 students rallied at UF’s Turlington Plaza before forming the chain to press demands for College of Engineering Dean Cammy Abernathy to delay the proposal and reconsider the cuts. Computer and information science and engineering doctoral student Nuri Yeralan said the plan would spell the end of the department.

“This is not a merger,” he said. “This is murder.”
